The Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) in collaboration with Sharada Educational Trust, have designed and developed the “Sulabh” app (Sharada Universal Learning App for Bharat) tailored to meet the learning needs of Students and Educators in rural areas of Karnataka and India.

Q. What will I learn by the end of the course?
A. By the end of the course, the student should be able to
Q. What is the course duration for Online course?
A. There will be 12 lessons or sessions of 1 hour each conduced twice a week plus 8 optional lessons. You have to commit your time for the 6 weeks or 10 weeks course
Q. What is the course duration for Self-Paced course?
A. There is no defined duration but we expect the students to complete the course within 3 months
Q. Will I speak English fluently by the end of the course?
A. We expect our students to practice spoken English by watching English News, conversing with friends and classmates only in English, reading English Newspapers, revising our course content and watching the classroom recordings
Q. Is Grammar important for spoken English
A. Though our course content does not put too much focus on the grammatical aspects, it is very important to know basic Grammar to converse fluently in English
Q. Does the course follow any school curriculum?
A. The course syllabus does not follow any school based curriculum, since the content caters to students across age groups
Q. Will it be fun to learn Spoken English?
A. Certainly Yes. We follow an activity-based learning model with less stress on grammar. The “visual media” based content includes videos of short stories, audio files, quizzes and activities, which keeps the students engaged without a single dull moment that makes learning a fun-based activity
Q. Will Homework be given to us?
A. Home-work is again activity based - short videos, audio clips and Quiz
Q. For the Online course, what type of Assessment exercise is given to us?
A. Students are expected to attempt simple exercises either through Google Forms or through WhatsApp
Q. For the Self-Paced course students, how are we going to be assessed?
A. Students will have to attempt the Assessment exercise after completion of each lesson or session to proceed to the next lesson or session. Once all the exercises are attempted successfully, the student successfully completes the course
Q. What should I ensure before I start the course?
A. The student is expected to use their Laptop or a Desktop for better results or a Smartphone. The Wi-Fi connectivity should be reliable for uninterrupted learning. Use a headphone for clear hearing. Attend the sessions from a quiet and comfortable location. Importantly check the audio and video atleast 10 minutes before you join the online classroom so that you ensure there is no technical glitch.
Q. Which conferencing tool is used for Online course?
A. We use JioMeet for the online sessions
Q. Will the Tutor converse with students in the local language (Kannada, Hindi, Marathi etc.) if they are unable to follow?
A. The Tutor will speak in the local language on need basis only for the initial 3-4 sessions. From the 4th session onwards, the Tutor will converse only in English with the students
Q. Will the Class recording be made available for Online classes?
A. Class recording shall be made available to the students so that they do not forget or miss important topics learnt during the sessions
Q. Will the course material be made available?
A. The course material shall be made available to the students for practicing what they learnt
Q. Will I get a Certificate at the end of the course?
A. Certificate of Attendance will be issued to those students who attend atleast 80% of the Online sessions. Toppers will be issued Certificate of Excellence.
For Students of Self-Paced course, Certificate will be issued only on completion of the course and successfully attempting the assessment and exercises
